Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd
Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited (UPPER / UTKHPL) is the autonomous company established by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in March 2007 to develop Nepal's flagship and largest hydroelectric project. The 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project is a peaking run-of-river scheme located in Dolakha district, Bagmati Province (about 197 km east of Kathmandu), featuring an 822 m gross head, 66 m3/s design discharge, an underground powerhouse with six Pelton units, and a dam at Lamabagar. It is developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis under a generation license obtained in December 2010 (35-year validity), and the plant has been operating since July 2021. A 51% majority is held by public entities, with NEA holding 41%, Nepal Telecom (NTC) 6%, and Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) and Rastriya Beema Sansthan (RBS) 2% each; power is sold to NEA.
