Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (Nepal Re / NRIC) is Nepal's first reinsurance company and a Government of Nepal undertaking. It was incorporated on November 7, 2014 under the Companies Act 2006, succeeding the Insurance Pool established in 2003 (which covered riot, sabotage, terrorism, and malicious damage), following a Council of Ministers decision dated August 7, 2014. It was formally inaugurated on December 22, 2014. The company operates on a public-private partnership model: the Government of Nepal holds roughly 44 percent, with non-life insurers (~27 percent), life insurers, public limited companies, and the general public holding the remainder. Nepal Re provides reinsurance support to life and general insurers and is listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) under the symbol NRIC in the Others sector.
