Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited is a government-owned investment company (state-owned enterprise) established on July 11, 2011 as a special purpose vehicle to mobilize finance for hydropower development. It is majority government-owned: about 80% equity is public, with the Government of Nepal holding around 50% and three state-owned companies holding about 30%. The company invests through debt or equity in hydropower generation, transmission and distribution projects and renewable energy, generally focusing on hydropower projects with capacity above 25 MW. It was established with authorized capital of Rs. 50 billion and paid-up capital of about Rs. 8 billion, and raises funds through bonds, debentures and loans from domestic and international institutions.
