How to Buy and Sell Stocks in Nepal through Atrad

Introduction to Atrad

Atrad is an online trading platform that allows investors to buy and sell shares listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE). Through Atrad, investors can conveniently place buy and sell orders, monitor their orders, view their portfolio, and track market information online.

To start trading, an investor generally needs a Demat account, MeroShare account, a valid trading account with a broker, and sufficient funds or available collateral as applicable.

How to Buy Stocks

Step 1: Log in to Atrad

Open the Atrad trading platform and log in using your trading account credentials provided by your broker.

Step 2: Select the Stock

Search for the company you want to purchase by entering its NEPSE-listed stock symbol.

Before placing an order, review the available market price and other relevant information.

Step 3: Select "Buy"

Choose the Buy option and enter the required order details, including:

  • Stock symbol
  • Quantity of shares
  • Price per share
  • Order validity/type, if applicable

Make sure that the quantity and price are correct before submitting the order.

Step 4: Place the Buy Order

Review the order carefully and submit it. Your order will be sent to the trading system and will remain pending until it is matched with a corresponding sell order.

Step 5: Check Order Status

You can monitor your order from the Order Book/Order Status section. The order may be shown as pending, partially executed, or fully executed depending on the available matching orders.

How to Sell Stocks

Step 1: Log in to Atrad

Log in to your Atrad account using your registered trading credentials.

Step 2: Select the Stock from Your Portfolio

Go to your portfolio or search for the stock you want to sell.

Make sure you have the required quantity of shares available for selling according to the applicable trading and settlement requirements.

Step 3: Select "Sell"

Choose the Sell option and enter:

  • Stock symbol
  • Quantity of shares
  • Selling price
  • Order validity/type, if applicable

Step 4: Review and Submit the Order

Check the stock symbol, quantity, and selling price carefully before submitting the order.

Once submitted, the order will be sent to the market for matching with a corresponding buy order.

Step 5: Monitor the Order

Check the Order Book/Order Status to determine whether the order has been executed, partially executed, or remains pending.

Understanding Order Matching

Orders are matched in the market based on the applicable price and time priority. A buy order can be executed when a suitable sell order is available, while a sell order can be executed when a suitable buy order is available.

Therefore, placing an order does not necessarily mean that the transaction will be executed immediately.

After Buying or Selling

After a successful transaction, investors should check their order and transaction details. For a completed purchase, the shares will be reflected through the applicable settlement process and ultimately credited to the investor's Demat account.

For a completed sale, the investor should complete any required DIS/EDIS or MeroShare-related settlement process within the applicable timeframe.

Important Points to Remember

  • Always verify the stock symbol, quantity, and price before submitting an order.
  • Make sure sufficient funds or required collateral are available before placing buy orders.
  • Do not share your Atrad login credentials or OTP with anyone.
  • Monitor your pending and executed orders regularly.
  • Complete the required settlement procedures within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Trading in shares involves market risk. Investors should make investment decisions based on their own research and risk tolerance.
